Ben’s new job
I’ve accepted a position at ATG a web development company in Cambridge. This is a big step for me because I’ve worked at MIT since I got out of college. I agonized over this decision because I love my work at MIT. I finally decided to be adventurous and try this out - and it’s going to be great. The team I’ll be working with at ATG is very impressive, and I will learn a lot from them.
Since I’ve been telling people I keep answering the same few questions. So here you go:
- Yes, they will pay me more than I made at MIT.
- I can still walk to work, in fact they are moving to Kendall Square (next door to MIT) this summer.
- My job title will be “Senior UI Designer/Web Developer”
- This company has been around since 1991 and survived the dotcom bubble burst back in 2001.
- ATG stands for “Art Technology Group” which was their name when they were founded. But the company is just called “ATG” nowadays.

This all sounds so wonderful so why am I so sad? :-(
Honestly, I’m very happy and excited for you but you will be missed at MIT. I jsut realized that you were the only person left on the 2nd floor that was here when I arrived here 5-1/2 years ago - maybe that’s a sign to evaluate my situation?!?!?!

Congratualtions! I’m very happy for you. We’ll have to celebrate with a playdate for Nathan and Marisa. We have more positions her in my department that I was going to suggest that you apply for but I’m glad that this opportunity panned out for you instead.
I wish you and the family all the best always!

Darn! You always seemed to be one of the more hardcore web2.0 people affiliated with Sakai! Who are we going to having javascript conversations with on the forum now?!? :)
Good luck with your new position!
