Owl shirt

Monday, July 31st, 2006

I finally got my hands on some freezer paper so I could try a freezer paper stencil. I started off with this simple design so I could get the hang of it. My choice was a bit limited by Pearl’s poorly stocked fabric paint selection.

I wanted to do a Totoro shirt which I see is not a very original idea.

Running the Geek Way

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

I started running for the dorkiest of reasons. You can read all about my latest pet project - Running the Geek Way. I thought I’d cross post here since that post treads the border between technology and general life news.

Sauerkraut

Saturday, July 22nd, 2006

We’re making a batch of sauerkraut to add to our collection of fermented experiments. So far so good. The totally amazing thing about this recipe is that it has only salt and cabbage in it. All that liquid comes from the cabbage. You can kind of see the bubbles forming on the top which only took a day or so to arrive since it is so hot out. I expect we can eat this any day now.

Another sweater for Nathan

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

I’ve been working on this sweater for Nathan for too long now. I’ve felt like the left front color doesn’t work which has kept me from finishing it but now I see it is the sleeves that are wrong. Re-knitting the sleeves is a more horrible idea than re-knitting the right front. If I use the white in the sleeves to knit the border it might tie it all together.

The pattern is from One Skein and was one of the reasons I bought the book but now I’m not so sure about it.

Camping 2006

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

We had a great time camping last weekend. It is Nathan’s 3rd summer camping but so much has changed. For us the most exciting part was watching him figure out how to swim using his ring. Today he got more practice with it and he can really propel himself forward.

He tells everyone who asks that his favorite part was that Rara Theresa came to spend Saturday night with us.

George’s Island

Friday, July 7th, 2006

We had a lovely trip to the harbor islands this week. It was Nathan’s first trip out there and his first experience on a ferry boat. He loved the boat ride which of course has the added feature of going right past the airport so you have planes right over your head for some of the trip.

Nathan managed to play in the water at Lovell’s Island despite the frigid temperatures.

Oh well, I’m not too inspired to write anything about this. I just thought it had been a while so there you go. We’re off for a weekend of camping today…
