Ed and John’s Wedding

Thursday, September 29th, 2005

I’m excited to attend Ed and John’s Wedding next month. Finally, we’re invited to a same sex wedding! Hooray for Massachusetts (and congratulations Ed & John). It’s weird how a wedding like this feels more like a anniversary party - they’ve been together so long.

Glass Pumpkins

Monday, September 26th, 2005

Nathan and I visited the the Glass pumpkins while Lisa was preparing for the tea party on Saturday morning. The pumpkins were amazing. What amazed me though was the spectacle of frenzied spending! Each of those pumpkins as from $70-$400 with most of them around $150, and they place was like Filenes basement on a sale day, hundreds of people running around piling pumpkins into the boxes and bags they’d brought with them, and standing in long lines to get tot the efficiently run outdoor cash registers. it was a little crazy.

I guess I’m a risk taker, because here’s a picture of me letting nathan play with $800 worth of glass pumpkins. We came home empty handed but impressed.

President Obama

Monday, September 26th, 2005

I recently subscribed to Senator Barack Obama’s podcast, and after listening to him as I walk home, I think I want this guy to president. He’s so much more believable and genuine and intelligent and understandable than the last couple of candidates the Democrats have fielded.

Tea Party

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

Nathan had his friends Emma and Jackson over for a tea party on Saturday. Lisa arranged an incredible meal for kids and parents alike.

  • puff pastries
  • goat cheese and leek tart
  • cupcakes with coconut cream cheese frosting
  • homemade marshmallows
  • Cali-style empanadas
  • lemonade with raspberry ice cubes (the lemonade turns pink as the cubes melt)

And quite a bit more - it was incredible. Everybody had a great time. It was one of the first times I’ve heard nathan have two-way imaginary play with kids his own age. They spent a bit of time playing bus together.

Homemade marshmallows

Tuesday, September 20th, 2005

Lisa decided to make homemade Marshmallows for Nathan’s toddler tea party. That’s so Lisa. She just let me taste the marshmallow fluff - pretty amazingly delicious.

Hockey and Stoughton

Tuesday, September 20th, 2005

Nathan has two Digger friends he has named Hockey and Stoughton. He names many things with those names, but these have really stuck. Hockey and Stoughton are friends and do a lot of work together. nearly every day this week Nathan has spent some time, usually in the early morning, playing hockey and Stoughton. Often their job is just to drive around looking at things. Often they are called on to fix major train derailments, or today to right a tipped over truck. Sometimes they just go park at a construction site. I often have to play Stoughton (the little yellow digger). It’s so fun watching Nathan use his imagination.

De-shingled House

Monday, September 19th, 2005

Removing the shingles from the front of our house revealed some nice looking wood from olden times. It’s going to be covered right back up with new cedar shingles though.

Urban hike

Sunday, September 18th, 2005

We exhausted ourselves walking from South Station to Copley Square over the Mass Ave bridge and back home to Cambridge. Here’s Nathan in Chinatown near the start of the hike. Not sure why the photo is so over exposed, but he had such a nice smile I decided to keep it.

Stick ‘em up!

Sunday, September 18th, 2005

Nathan puts one of the cannons the British left behing in 1776 to good use. The cannons are in the Cambridge Common, near one of Nathan’s favorite palygrounds.

Blowing out 3 candles

Saturday, September 17th, 2005

We had a small birthday celebration with my parents and the Ruddy-Novelle horde. Nathan loved it, he is really excited about his gifts and loved running around with the kids as usual. Here he is blowing out candles. Adriana is trying to hold Gustavo back so Nathan will get his chance.

You can see a few more birthday photos on Flickr.
