Birthday Song

Thursday, February 24th, 2005

The best part of my birthday was when Nathan sang happy birthday to me (with a little coaching from Lisa).

Check out the movie.

I think we’re ashamed to admit it, but nathan is getting into the TV. Luckily his habit won’t have time to develop too much, since we’ll be back in our TV-free Boston home in less than two weeks.

The show he particularly loves is “Dragon Tales.” He can name the characters, and he has a special dance to do during the opening and closing credits.

It gets worse. The other day Lisa got him a Bob the Builder video out from the library. He loved it, of course.

Why are we letting the TV babysit? It’s mostly due to Nathan’s new sleep schedule. he’s been giving up naps. His naps used to be a guaranteed 90 minute to two hour break for lisa in the middle of the day. Without the break, it’s just exhausting. the TV helps provide a little break, too.

Bubble wrap

Monday, February 14th, 2005

I got a nice present from Tim. It came wrapped in bubble wrap. This was Nathan’s first big bubble wrap experience. He loves it. He’s been playing with it for days (will it ever run out of bubbles?).

One cool thing is that he can do two bubbles at once, and he counts them “One, two.” He’s been counting lots of things, he can count objects up to four, and he can count up to eight just chanting it. Lisa says the object counting is very advanced for his age. He’s obviously brilliant.

Tim’s present came with music from the Chemical Brothers, and we had fun watching Nathan come up with some new dances and talk to the music. Every four beats he’s say “beep” or “honk” in response to a sound he heard the song.

Rara Theresa

My Mom is visiting us now. She arrived on Saturday. I posted some photos from our trip into SanFrancisco last Sunday. Nathan needed some more Cable Car time, and we took him tot he cable car museum to see the massive pulleys that haul miles of cable that the cars hook onto through the city. It’s also Chinese New year (Happy Rooster everyone!) so we walked through China town and saw a cool Lion Dance.

It’s been a good week - I’ve been under blogging. For example, you may never know about our fantastic meal at Rivoli last night.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Beautiful Day

Friday, February 4th, 2005

We have had some really incredible weather. It is the most perfect spring weather, like what we in Boston always expect to have in April or even May but never get.

Nathan and I have been trying to spend as much time outside as possible. Today we walked to the Rockridge shopping area and got Nathan’s haircut at Cool Tops, a special kids only hair salon. Nathan got to sit in a special car shaped seat and watch Elmo on his personal video player. Cynthia did a great job. It was the first time that he sat still and didn’t have a freak out about the clippers. She did ask if she could do above his ears and he said no so that didn’t get done.

Sadly, Nathan is giving up his naps. I still try everyday but he has only actually slept one day since last Saturday. This really kills me and makes me think it is time to send him to school!

We had a lovely time at the playground though and then walked up to campus to get Papi. We all made the difficult decision to eat out and now we’re getting the big N ready for bed, nice and early.

You can see a photo diary to accompany this report in the photos section.
